Pepperdine University Official Elected To Heifer Foundation Board Of Trustees

September 24, 2009

(Little Rock, Ark.) Stephanie Buckley was recently elected to a 3-year term on the Board of Trustees for Heifer Foundation, a non-profit dedicated ending hunger and poverty while caring for the Earth.

“I was very honored when I was asked to serve on the board because the Heifer Foundation is such a great organization,” Buckley said.

Buckley, of Simi Valley, California, will begin her term in September of 2009. Established in 1990, Heifer Foundation was created to manage the endowment for Heifer International and offers a variety of planned charitable giving instruments that provide individuals the ability to help themselves, their loved ones, and a world in great need.

As the Director of the Center for Estate and Gift Planning at Pepperdine University, Buckley works with current and prospective donors in raising major gifts, planned gifts, and in-kind gifts.  She identifies and creates estate and financial planning tools specific to donors’ needs.

“With my legal background and non-profit experience, I hope to bring a new perspective to an already wonderful and effective board,” Buckley said.

Buckley earned her undergraduate degree with High Honors in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and her Juris Doctorate with a specialization in Business Law and Taxation from the UCLA, and completed her LL.M. in Taxation with Honors at Loyola Law School.

“I can help with my knowledge of how processes and fundraising work at other non-profit organizations and hopefully help to further the great efforts that Heifer is already achieving.

Buckley previously worked as a Vice President at Crescendo Interactive, Inc., where she assisted non-profits all over the country with the creation and structuring of planned gifts. She serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Planned Giving Today. She has taught the Introduction to Planned Giving course offered through UCLA Extension. She currently serves as the President of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Greater Los Angeles and is a member of the Planned Giving Council of Ventura County, and the Conejo Valley Estate Planning Council. Buckley is licensed to practice law in the State of California.

About Heifer International:

Heifer International was founded on a simple belief: ending hunger begins with giving people the means to feed themselves.  Since 1944, Heifer has helped more than 10.5 million hungry families in the United States and 125 other countries move toward self-reliance through the gift of food- and income-producing animals.  More importantly, families and communities who receive animals are trained in environmentally sound, sustainable agriculture so they can in turn “pass on the gift” of sharing to other needy people in their communities.
